Toledo Cathedral

The first Cathedral we went to in Toledo was my absolute favorite one we’ve gone to this entire trip! I was so impressed with everything in there, the amount of detail on each piece of stone and wood was amazing. My favorite part was either the wood-carved seats with the mercy seats, or the painting towards the back with a whole bunch of angels and rainbows and the sun peaks through the window perfectly it looks like you are looking up into heaven! It is absolutely beautiful. The wood carving was so impressive because every seat was completely different. There were no repeats of animals and they all were very detailed and even told stories.

I think that Cathedrals like this one are important culturally because it shows how religion was revered and practiced back then and they can be a great place to visit to see how things have changed and also see things that you like that they did. They are also important historically because they teach us a lot about the importance of religious stories, like the story that I saw portrayed the most in this Cathedral was the one where Mary gifted San Ildefonso the Chasuble. There were at least five that I saw that depicted the story and that shows that it was important to them culturally at the time.

This cathedral and others like it contribute to the city's status as a cultural capital because it shows that they are dedicated to preserving these beautiful pieces of history and want people to be able to witness and learn about them. Cathedrals also draw in a lot of tourists who want to see the art and stained glass inside of them. It also shows that preserving art is important to them which to me shows that art is an important part of their culture and is a way for people here to worship and show their love and devotion for God.

  2. What an intelligent young woman you are! I definitely agree that this cathedral's preservation shows how important art is to the city. Art is such a large part of culture, and dedication to it shows initiative on their part. I think that you make a good point also about how their dedication to art shows how they use art in their culture to worship.
